I spent all of 2024 living in Japan, immersing myself in the culture in various ways. I became more aware of concepts like Ikigai, focused on meditation and my job, and developed a brand—from the logo and labels to designing the first collection. Everything was made in Japan, embracing both Japanese culture and my Mexican background, resulting in an amazing collection. I learned about Japanese crafts and textiles by traveling to different places in Japan and connecting with local artists and designers.
I decided to get out of my comfort zone and move to Japan—it's the best decision I've made so far. I started working at a Japanese company called Agumi, which specializes in fashion planning and manufacturing, particularly in pattern making. I've learned so much about Japanese culture and its fashion world, where I’ve met interesting people and had the opportunity to work closely with them on design, pattern making, sewing, and manufacturing.
I started paying more attention to my brand, which helped me gain a deeper understanding of the industry and explore areas I didn’t know were possible. I collaborated with Aromaria, a well-known Mexican brand, and presented my thesis, "Atmospheres," which led to my graduation. I also worked pro bono at the Museum of Modern Art, an incredible experience for a museum lover like me. It allowed me to learn more about how a museum operates and participate in many amazing activities.
I worked with a well-known Mexican fashion designer named Macario Jimenez, who taught me a great deal about building my own brand and collaborating with skilled seamstresses and pattern makers. During the same year, I completed a six-month degree in business for the fashion industry with a focus on sustainability at Taller FDP in Mexico City.
I began to wonder what would happen if I created my own brand, so I started learning about leather goods and accessories. Later on, I became very close with artisans who could bring my designs to life. MariaElisa is my passion and the best project I could ever dream of. During the same year, I took an incredible course at LCI Education in Barcelona that helped me improve my skills in draping and molding techniques.
I began my studies in fashion design after completing a previous course in outerwear at CENTRO, the same university. I also worked at a graphic design studio called Dracula, where I was the head of marketing and social media. This experience taught me a lot about brand development, logo design, packaging, web design, and client-specific needs.
I had the opportunity to attend the London School of Economics during the summer for a short course that helped me engage with important global issues. Additionally, I completed a more intensive program in Finance and Creative Innovation at ESADE Business School.
When I’m not working, I dive into other passions, such as capturing the ordinary through analog photography, studying art history, reading about science, philosophy, and Hispanic literature, and visiting museums. However, my greatest passion is creation; I love to express my ideas, feelings, and existential and philosophical questions through art.
